In what could be an inspiration for young nationals, a prominent Qatari and an upcoming entrepreneur, Khalid al-Mohannadi, has developed and launched a unique mobile application ‘LAGYY’ for building materials and household items.
The launch event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Ministry of Economy and Commerce as well as partnering companies including Nabina, Spectra, Art Glass and Al Maamoura Co among others.
Meaning ‘Find’ in Arabic, the application, LAGYY has a vast display of the products of most of the vendors dealing in building materials, furniture, lighting among many other products.
“This is a new and unique app and as far as I know, such an app is not available anywhere in the region," said al-Mohannadi who is the founder and general manager of the company. "We have got the patent for the app and the logo not only in Qatar but in the GCC region and the entire Middle East,” he explained.
The application enables local companies to showcase their products available in the market to those in search for similar products and services. There are a number of categories ranging from kitchens, flooring, bathrooms, lighting, wall coverings and services related to home building and smart homes.” Duha al-Buhendi, manager, Digital Incubation Centre, Ministry of Communications and Transport, said that the incubation centre supports such innovative ideas.
“It will benefit the people highly and highlight the potential of the information and communication technology with the aim of further developing the digital and online landscape in Qatar. We provide LAGYY and other similar incubated startups with a package of services including couching and mentoring, free office spaces, training and business development, in addition to some other supportive services. And we wish them success,” added al-Buhendi.
According to al-Mohannadi, his own experience at building his home and the tedious process of visiting each and every shop for several materials was his inspiration for looking at an innovative solution. “The app provides all the details of the products such as the size, colour, cost, the make and several other features. The application can be downloaded free of cost on Android and Apple stores both in Arabic or English. The application will have significant impact on saving time and effort to identify the products and services to build homes or for company projects.”
The official highlighted that at present over 65% of the retailers in the country have already registered on the application and the entire details of their products can be accessed through a click. “We aim to complete 90 to 100% of the companies in the country to get registered on the application by the end of this year. Thereafter, we will concentrate on the wider GCC region and beyond,” added al-Mohannadi.
